How often should my electrical equipment be PAT Tested?

How often should my electrical equipment be PAT Tested?

Whilst running your business it is essential that you provide a safe environment for your work colleagues and customers that are on your premises. It’s therefore important that all of your electrical equipment is tested regularly by a professional electrician. As part of your health and safety policy it is a legal requirement to ensure that all electrical appliances within your premises are PAT tested.

This ensures compliance with the Electricity at Work Regulations of 1989 which states that employers must ensure all equipment used within the workplace is maintained in a safe condition.

As a general rule of thumb you should look to have all of your portable electrical appliances tested at least once a year. For larger, fixed electrical equipment this may be less frequent. However, this does also vary dependent upon the type of environment that your electrical appliances are in. For more advice regarding the testing of your electrical appliances you should contact a professional electrician.

Here at Brightlec Electrical we provide a professional testing service that can identify a variety of common faults with your electrical appliances. We use the latest test equipment and can ensure that your electrical appliances meet the requirements of the current IEE regulations (17th Edition).
