You’ve no doubt heard all about LED light bulbs and how they could save you money, but are they really all they are cracked up to be? Will they save you money?

LED lighting will save your business money in two ways:

Replacement light bulbs

LED light bulbs have a general life expectancy of 50,000 hours. With 10 hours use a day, that translates to a lifespan of over 13.5 years. In contrast, incandescent light bulbs have a general life expectancy of 1,000 hours. With 10 hours use a day, that translates to a lifespan of 41 days, so there’s a huge difference between the two.

Even compact fluorescent light bulbs don’t come close. They have a general life expectancy of 10,000 hours, or 1.15 years. And so, if you want to reduce maintenance and replacement costs, LED light bulbs reign supreme for all commercial users.

Better energy efficiency

Better energy efficiency equals lower energy bills, and LED light bulbs are hands-down the most energy efficient products on the market today. LED bulbs that are ENERGY STAR rated consume at least 75 per cent less energy than incandescent bulbs, and 15 to 20% less energy than compact fluorescent bulbs, making them the obvious choice for better energy efficiency and lower energy bills in commercial buildings.

To give you an idea of cost savings, the estimated cost of electricity to power eight incandescent light bulbs for 12 hours a day for 50 days is £8.00. To power eight LED bulbs, that cost is reduced to £0.90. That’s an enormous saving.

Weighing up the cost

LED light bulbs cost more to purchase than compact fluorescent light bulbs. However, as previously discussed, they are more energy efficient. Over their lifespan, then, LED bulbs will pay for themselves. In fact, they’ll pay for themselves in just a year. For this reason, we recommend LED light bulbs for all applications.
