What does commercial rewiring entail?

What does commercial rewiring entail?

In the simplest terms, rewiring is the process of removing old wiring and replacing it with new wiring. However, commercial rewiring almost always includes additional work.

It is usually necessary to update or replace consumer units, spurs, faulty lighting and electrical heating systems, such as underfloor heating.

And so, commercial rewiring projects are quite a large job and the bigger the property, the more time it will take and the more it will cost. However, smaller buildings can be deceptive with the amount of wiring they have. So to get a true idea of time and cost with rewiring services, a survey will need to be carried out, to ascertain the true scale of the project.

It’s also important to factor in electrical system age. Older systems will need to be replaced in their entirety, if it is found that they are not be up to the task of powering modern-day appliances. As a matter of best practice, we recommend that any electrical system that’s older than 25 years be inspected by a qualified electrician.

You should also have an inspection performed if you encounter electrical problems such as blown fuses or power cuts that are not the fault of your electrical company, or the cause of a natural phenomenon. These are tell-tale signs of an aged or failing electrical system.

Whatever the case, the rewiring process starts with a survey. Our qualified electricians will inspect your business and report on the condition of the cabling, and they will also notify you of any electrical faults they find. If they recommend rewiring, then you should consider it, and especially so if your electrician finds that the existing system may fail at any time.

If you would like to go ahead with rewiring, then we will quote you and upon receipt of your approval, we will arrange a time and a day to commence work.

Most commercial rewiring projects will take at least 10 days to complete. However, we will take every effort to minimise the disruption to your business.

It’s important to remember though that our electricians will need access to every socket and switch in your business, so at some point, you will experience downtime. You will also be without power for a day at least, and this may affect your heating and water supply, so it’s important that you make arrangements to have access to these essentials.
